What is a dental crown?
A dental crown replaces the entire outside of your tooth, making it stronger, repairing damage, and preserving the inside of your natural tooth. Your dental crown will be custom created in a lab to look just like your surrounding teeth.
Why should I get a dental crown instead of having my tooth pulled?
It is always best to keep your natural tooth, if you can. A missing tooth can cause serious oral health problems over time, including tooth decay, gum disease, shifting teeth, and even shrinkage of your jaw bone. Missing teeth can lead to the instability of the bite which contributes to a prematurely aged look and jaw pain.
Pulling the tooth may be cheaper and easier today, but in the long run you will be better off with a dental crown.
Is my dental crown going to come loose or pop off in a few years?
No. Our advanced adhesive technology and the high quality labs that we use ensure that your crown will be made to fit perfectly. Furthermore, as LVI-trained cosmetic dentists, Dr. Raul Garcia and Dr. Conchi Sanchez-Garcia will create all of your restorations to work properly with the opposing teeth, protecting your oral health and the longevity of your crown.
What will my dental crown look like?
Your dental crown will be made of porcelain and custom crafted to look just like your natural tooth. It will be perfectly color-matched to the surrounding teeth. It will not be noticeable to others. Most likely, they will just comment on your beautiful smile.
Are there alternatives to dental crowns?
Yes, there are some alternatives that may be appropriate depending on your unique dental needs. Dr. Garcia and Dr. Sanchez-Garcia always opt for the most conservative approach. Whenever possible, they will recommend a tooth colored filling or porcelain inlay/onlay rather than a dental crown because those restorations preserve more of your natural tooth.
